The New Freelander SUV is back. Not as you know it. Of being a Land Rover model it’s now a standalone premium SUV brand under Chery and JLR. The first model just debuted in China as an electric off-roader. This is a change for Freelander, which will now only make new energy vehicles. They’re combining JLR’s design with Chery’s tech.
Key Features of the New Freelander SUV
- Electric Powertrains: The new Freelander SUV will come in versions, including fully electric, plug-in hybrid and range extender. This means it can suit markets and customers.
- Advanced Platform: It’s built on an 800V platform, which is quite advanced.
The first model was shown as the Concept 97 named after the Freelander’s launch year, 1997. The production version will be similar with a few changes like normal doors instead of the concept’s weird doors.

Interior
- Design: The SUV looks tough and boxy like the old Freelander and new Land Rover Defender. It has a diagonal pillar design, special LED lights and big skid plates.
- High-Tech Interior: Inside there will be a 3-row 6-seat setup. It’s meant for families who want a SUV. The cabin will have a screen, advanced connectivity and a special display that goes all the way across the dashboard.

Production
- Advanced Tech: The SUV will also have a computer chip and a advanced driver assistance system with LiDAR. There will be screens for rear-seat passengers, nice seats and a high console for space.
The new Freelander SUVs will be made in China. The factory will also make models like Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque for China. Freelander plans to sell starting with Europe. They’ll make versions for different regions.
Future Plans
Freelander has plans, with up to six new models over five years. They want to launch a model every six months. The first one will be a -size SUV like the Concept 97. It will be good for off-road and city driving.
