Tata Sierra Petrol SUV confirmed! Spotted testing at a fuel station, the new Sierra will launch with petrol, diesel, and EV powertrains. Rivals include Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Grand Vitara.
Tata Motors is gearing up for one of its most awaited launches – the all-new Tata Sierra Petrol SUV. Reviving the iconic Sierra nameplate, the upcoming SUV has now been spotted at a fuel station, confirming its petrol-powered variants. The Sierra will be offered in multiple powertrain options – petrol, diesel, and electric (EV) – making it one of the most versatile SUVs in the compact and mid-size SUV segment.
Tata Sierra Petrol – NA & Turbo Variants
The upcoming Tata Sierra Petrol SUV will reportedly come with two petrol engine choices.

- 1.5-litre Naturally Aspirated Petrol – targeted towards buyers who prefer better mileage and affordability. Expected output could be around 120 PS, though official figures are yet to be revealed.
- 1.5-litre Turbo Petrol – tuned for enthusiasts who prioritize performance. This engine is expected to deliver 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, paired with both manual and automatic gearbox options.
Both petrol engines will be E20 fuel compliant, ensuring future-readiness for India’s ethanol-blended fuel shift.
Diesel & EV Options
To appeal to the diesel enthusiasts, the Sierra might borrow the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel of Harrier and Safari. This is a proven motor producing 170 PS and 350 Nm, and 6 speed manual and automatic. Higher variants may also get AWD (All-Wheel Drive) to enhance off-road capabilities.

The Tata Sierra EV will share its setup with the Harrier EV, offering 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs, along with RWD and AWD drive layouts. Off-road terrain modes like Mud, Rock, Sand, and Snow will add to its versatility.
Tata Sierra vs Rivals
The new Sierra will directly take on top-selling SUVs like:
- Hyundai Creta – NA petrol, turbo petrol and diesel models with various transmission options.
- Kia Seltos – Powerful in functions and performance, one of the major competitors of the segment.
- Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota HyRyder- Good hybrid powertrains render them very fuel efficient substitutes.
- Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and the future Mahindra BE 6 all are within the same competitive range.
Another major competitor will be the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which comes with smart hybrid and strong hybrid setups.

Launch Timeline
The Tata Sierra Petrol SUV is expected to hit Indian roads in 2026, with official unveil likely in late 2025. Positioned as a stylish, feature-packed, and versatile SUV, the Sierra could be Tata’s breakthrough in the segment where Creta and Seltos currently dominate.
