Tata Harrier EV QWD With Dual Motors Will Get Cheaper
Variants of Harrier EV with AWD have met the market expectations, as approximately 30 percent of the total sales are through AWD models that Tata Motors had introduced in the first half of this year in June. It has become one of the top selling electric vehicles in the Tata line, which contributed to increasing the market share in the EV business. AWD (officially known as QWD) is one of the most important characteristics of Tata Harrier EV QWD that only Empowered trim offers at the moment. Tata is now even considering launching AWD with also lower variants. We should have more information regarding this development.
Why Tata Harrier EV QWD Sales Are Strong Despite High Price
QWD is a segment first feature; however, the initial price is 28.99 lakh. Despite the expensive price, the Tata Harrier EV QWD versions have already contributed to nearly 1/3rd of all the sales of the SUV. This is compared to the original estimate of 20 percent made by the company during the time of launch.
The data on sales is clearly showing that the market is favouring the performance-oriented version of Harrier EV. Most of the other features and equipment list are similar to the top variants which do not have QWD besides the superior performance. It also has the Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 ACFC which are priced at 27.49 lakh and 27.98 lakh respectively.
Key Features That Make Tata Harrier EV QWD Special
Besides the dual motorization, the Tata Harrier EV QWD models also feature Boost Mode, Offroad Assist and 6 terrain modes (Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, Custom). QWD has been a popular product whereas the high cost may be restricting the sales potential. As Tata is looking forward to launching QWD using some of the lower models, Harrier EV sales may further increase.
Possible New QWD Variant in Fearless+ Trim
Harrier EV Trim levels Fearless trim levels Fearless trim levels of the Harrier EV include Adventure, then Adventure S, Fearless + and Empowered. Probably, the Fearless + trim of Harrier EV could be launched with the Tata Harrier EV QWD system. It is available in the 65 kWh and the 75 kWh battery pack options. The Fearless + trim ranges between 23.99 lakh and 23.99 lakh. At the moment, QWD is being sold only in the models with the 75-kWh battery pack. There is no indicators whether the trims lower than Fearless will also get the QWD improved.
Tata Harrier EV QWD Performance, Battery and Real-World Range
Harrier EV – Performance, battery, range Entry and mid variants of Harrier EV have battery packs of 65 kWh and 75 kWh. These are provided with the electric motor being placed in the rear axle. The permanent magnet synchronous motor has a 238 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Eco drive mode is also available to the user.
Certified range, as MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 Cycle, is 538 km in the 65 kWh variants. Nonetheless, according to the C75 specifications developed by Tata, the range in the real-world is approximately 420-445 km. The certified range, with the 75 kWh variants, is 627 km. Real-world range will be approximately 480-505 km.
Tata Harrier EV QWD variants have an extra 158 PS motor at the front. Its combined torque is 504 Nm with the two motors. Harrier EV QWD versions are certified to cover 622 km. The real-life range is set at around 460-490 km.
