Victoris SUV is the latest car to be introduced in the country by Maruti Suzuki. It is by far the most technological vehicle of the brand by far. Victoris has a large number of powertrain options except one Diesel and one Electric version. However, there is another version of Victoris which is the Bio Gas variant, which is to be demonstrated soon. Let’s take a closer look.

Multiple Powertrain Options in Victoris SUV

In India, Victoris SUV has been introduced in three variants of powertrains. One is the usual 1.5L NA Petrol engine, and then one CNG Bi-Fuel version of this engine. Next, there is also a Petrol Electric Hybrid with the Toyota sourced 1.5L. The company is currently demonstrating the 4th powertrain variant which is Bio Gas variant.

Victoris SUV is going to be exhibited at 2025 Japan Mobility Show in its Said BioGas version. This type of Victoris, which can combust CBG (Compressed Bio Gas), will be a variant of their already established CNG version with all the goodness such as under-body CNG storage tank which is a direct response to the 2-cylinder technology of Tata and Hyundai.

It will retain Said 1.5L 4-cylinder K15 engine, though a few mechanical changes will also be made in order to make sure that it will combust Bio Gas cleanly. In the majority of cases and compositions, CNG and CBG are tightly interrelated and could be replaced by each other more or less, yet OEMs will adjust engine further to ensure cleaner combustion.

Difference Between CNG and CBG Fuel

CNG is a non-renewable fossil fuel that is present in large quantities and occurs naturally. Nevertheless, it is not an unlimited source of energy as Solar energy is. It is also non-renewable, something that is worrying about CNG. On the contrary, the methane gas released in the process of decomposing organic matter utilizes CBG.
CBG is renewable fuel and can be produced within a short time unlike CNG which is a non-renewable fuel that takes millions of years to develop. The problem of agricultural residue burning to cause pollution, municipal solid waste to cause cleaner cities and even employment opportunities will be solved through large scale production of Bio Gas.

Expected Launch and Prototype Status

The First ADAS car by Victoris Maruti.
Although the Maruti Victoris Bio Gas variant is supposed to be similar to Victoris CNG variant, a company is unlikely to release it as an independent product in India. Victoris Bio Gas (CBG) will probably be presented at 2025 Japan Motor Show as a prototype that cannot have an immediate launch.
