Honda plans to make India the global manufacturing hub for its upcoming 0 Alpha Electric SUV, launching by 2026–27 under the Make in India initiative.
Honda motor company has reported that the business intends to make India an international production center in the future against EVs. This is in line with the Make In India program that is the flagship of the Indian Government. This change in manufacturing plans of Honda will begin with the next electric SUV, the Honda 0 Alpha, which will be released in 2026 or 2027.
Honda 0 Alpha Electric SUV and Current Portfolio in India
Now Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) is running quite a small portfolio in the country in comparison to a very huge product range that is observed in the international markets. The market share of the company is now approximately 1.4 of 14 most profitable mainstream car models. The domestic sales in September 2025 were 5,305 units, which included Amaze, City and Elevate.

Upcoming Electric SUV to Compete with Leading EV Rivals
The second major move undertaken by the company to increase its Indian portfolio is an electric SUV that will be the production-ready model of Honda 0 Alpha concept, presented at Japan Mobility Show 2025. The future electric SUV is aimed at India and other Asian markets, such as the native land of the brand, Japan. India market entry will occur sometime in 2026 or 2027 and will compete with other electric SUVs in the country such as Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki eVitara among others. It has a radical design with a new design language improved by Honda that was used in its 0 Series of concepts.

India as Manufacturing and Export Hub for Honda 0 Alpha
The company elites have just affirmed that Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV would be produced in India. More specifically, in the manufacturing plant of the company in Alwar, Rajasthan. Production-spec version of Honda 0 Alpha electric SUV besides the manufacture will also be exported to several markets in Asia such as Japan. Takashi Nakajima, HCIL MD and CEO, disclosed that India is the leading three markets in the growth of Honda brand besides USA and Japan. Although the Honda business in India is significantly smaller in comparison to the USA and Japan, the company still has a lot of hope of establishing its brand and volumes in India and making it one of the global manufacturing and exporting centres of EVs.

Honda’s Growing Export Business from India
Honda Cars India Ltd already enjoys rather significant international business, to which it exports Elevate to Japan where it is sold as WR-V. This new plan of making India a global manufacturing and export base will become deeper with the production-spec version of Honda 0 Alpha concept vehicle at Japan Motor Show 2025. We also hope that Honda reinstates its importation business and introduce some of the most demanded vehicles in India. Although these imports will contribute a lot to volumes, it will further establish the name of the brand in the country.
