The much-awaited Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan has been spied charging in Ladakh. Packed with twin batteries, off-road DNA, and global ambitions, this electric ADV aims to rival the Himalayan 450.
Electric Himalayan Electric Charging in Ladakh.
The legendary Royal Enfield, the classic motorcycle brand with their classical in their veins is set to take a plunge in the world of the electric two-wheeler. This is now focused on the Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan, which is meant to keep the adventurous nature of the ICE-powered Himalayan and readjust to the future of sustainable mobility.
New spy photos of Ladakh depict test mules of the Electric Himalayan being charged in fixed charging stations, as well as using diesel generator powered mobile charging vans. This means that Royal Enfield is subjecting the motorcycle to severe real life situations so that it could be reliable in harsh environments.

Difficulty in charging in remote areas.
As an electric ADV, recharging is a major consideration factor, particularly when it comes to high altitude areas whereby the range of the battery is usually shortened because of steep slopes and rugged surfaces. To address this, Royal Enfield has implemented several test units, which do not only use charging stations available but also use mobile charging solutions installed on Force Traveller vans.
This brings to the fore an important problem: the charging infrastructure of the EV in India is still in its infancy, especially in rural and mountainous areas. In case a group of riders decided to go on an all-electric trip to Ladakh, the existing quantity of charging stations would not be enough to satisfy the demand.
Twin Battery Installation to be Practical.
The Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan, according to recent leaks has a twin-battery, which may be removable. This design would enable the riders to easily bring home battery packs or to the closest charging stations rather than drag the whole motorcycle when it becomes drained. Imagine it is similar to hauling jerrycans of fuel- but in EV times.
Design and Off-Road Intact DNA.
Although the electric power was introduced, the Electric Himalayan does not lose its original adventure motorcycle spirit:
- Big off-road tyre wire-spoke wheels.
Large ground clearance and long suspension travel. - Windscreen Tall windscreen to protect against the wind.
- Sturdy construction that is fit to be both a touring vehicle and a hardcore off-road vehicle.
Although the test mules will contain some high-quality components, not every one of the parts will survive to the production version.
Expected Performance
The Royal Enfield Electric Himalayan is said to have a mid-mounted motor under the skin which is actually a Spanish EV brand Stark Future SL. It is reported that, the electric powertrain will provide comparable performance to the Himalayan 450, so adventure seekers will not miss out on the fun in power and enjoy the advantage of instant electric torque.

Global Launch on the Horizon
Royal Enfield has not announced any timeline to launch the product, but the Electric Himalayan is being marketed as a worldwide product, expected to exploit the increasing popularity of adventure-oriented electric bikes.
