The KTM RC 490 is set to enter the midsize sport motorcycle segment with a twin-cylinder engine, premium features, and Austrian racing DNA. Expected launch in 2027.
KTM RC 490 -Derived based on CF Moto 450 SRS.
The technical underpinning of the RC 490 is one of the largest surprises regarding the RC 490. Rather than designing it in house, KTM has created it around the CF Moto 450 SRS, a Chinese sport bike designed by KTM partnering with CFMoto. Spy photos indicate that the RC 490 prototype looks very similar to the 450 SRS in terms of engine layout and proportions, but KTM has introduced numerous performance oriented changes.
- Engine: It is supposed to have a parallel twin-cylinder, which will provide approximately less than 47 hp and approximately 40 Nm of torque.
- Weight: Expects to weigh around 179 kg (kerb) like the CF Moto, which provides it with an outstanding power to weight ratio when riding through the daily ride and cornering the spirited rides.

Standout Technical Highlights
The best thing about the KTM RC 490 when compared to the competitors is the quality hardware:
- Single-sided swingarm – uncommon in this category, which puts it in an even more exotic superbike appearance.
- Brembo brakes with KTM-specific disc designs.
- WP Suspension as opposed to Showa, guaranteeing more responsive handling with KTM DNA track-tuned.
- Exclusive chassis tuning and engine programming to a clearly KTM Riding Character.

Aggressive KTM Styling including Winglet Aerodynamic wings.
Although the RC 490 and CF Moto share a common platform, it is very clear that it is KTM in design. The prototype features:
- Based on the KTM 990 RCR.
- New rear subframe with a sharp tail design.
- KTM-exclusive alloy wheel design.
Integrated underneath the headlights aerodynamic winglets- another design element that is not a common feature in this segment, suggesting serious track intent.
Features & Rider Tech
KTM will equip the RC 490 with features that are typically reserved to larger machines:

- TFT display with smartphone connectivity.
- Multiple riding modes.
- ABS/Traction Control Cornering.
- Quickshifter (likely bi-directional).
- Advanced rider aids for safety and performance.
KTM RC 490 Launch Timeline
In their prototype test phase, industry observers believe that KTM will launch the RC 490 worldwide by the end of 2026, and in India, it will launch it at the start of 2027. Being a lightweight, affordable, twin-cylinder supersport, it will compete with such brands as Kawasaki Ninja 500, Yamaha R3, and CF Moto 450 SRS.
